Let's get the rants out of the way, because this is what a journal is all about, right? Right.

Is it wrong to just really really loathe someone just because of a thread title they suggested? Tell me it is, because I really just loathe her and it. I mean, come on. It may seem childish, but hey, I'll pull up my hands and defend myself and be completely right when I say, she started it.

Jule & Nessa - I still call dibs!

What is with the hate about Sabrina and CJ? That's all I have to say. I don't have to justify my friends' relationships. He's with her because a) he thinks she's beautiful, b) she makes him laugh. he likes to laugh! and c) oh yea, most important one - he's in love with her!

So to all the haters and crap, Get.Over.It.
And yes, I'm starting another thing - Sabrina-fenders - or something like that, because she deserves one too.

PS7 Tutorial 10: Ferris Wheels feat. Cordelia & Angel

I'm in an art_battle with the most fantabulous graphic maker, moondancerjen and for our last volley, we're supposed to make an art piece with our favorite couple and write a tutorial on how to make it since we were following icon tutorials in the previous volleys by other artists to see if they translated well to bigger pieces. This is mine. Today, we will be making Ferris Wheels, as I like to call the piece, starring my favorite couple, Cordelia Chase & Angel of Angel and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

There are about 22 steps that I drafted out. I made the wallpaper before I wrote the tutorial, so if you see some things that I didn't cover - that's why. Okay, on with the tutorial:

Step One - Gray Background
Start off with your blank canvas - any size is good, but I would recommend anything above 800x600. I used a 1024x768 canvas and filled in it with a gray-ish color - #E3E3E7.

Step Two - Pattern
Create a new layer on top of that and fill it with a pattern. Any pattern is good, but don't fill it with something that looks too abstact, no light textures, stuff like that. Make it a bit more traditional. I used this one [link] and played around the hue and saturation of it, blending it into the background color.

Step Three - Polaroids
Add in your brushes now. I took these great polaroids from ohfreckle [link] and put them all over and resized and repositioned them and such. In the example below, you'll see pictures alreadt in the smaller boxes - this is because I wrote the tutorial after I made the wallpaper.

Step Four - Biggest Box
Now go ahead and add your pictures in. I created a manipulated picture of Cordelia and Angel from a Luke and Lorelai promotional image before I started the wallpaper and dragged it onto the wallpaper. Setting it in the largest box, I set it to lighten and cut away the excess of the picture. Once you did that, duplicate it, desaturate it and set it to hard light.

Step Five - Rectangular Box
Drag the same picture, or a different one - your choice - into the long rectangular box and repeat the same steps above.

Step Six*** - smaller boxes
For the smaller pictures, I chose the cute promo pictures of David and Charisma. Pay close attention now - Start off with only ONE SMALL BOX SET and set your pictures in them. You can repeat the steps above if you want. I simply desaturated both of them and set them to lighten, cut away the excess. Now, merge the polaroid and pictures together - for this set only. Duplicate, resize and reposition. This is what you should end up with, or something like it:

Go ahead and start brushing away some of the pattern, so that it looks blending into the gray color behind it.

Step Seven - Shadow Boxes pt1
Now, here comes the tricky part. Behind the polaroids, use the rectangular marquee tool and create a space behind the pictures. You can change this around so don't think that this is permanent. Once you have your area selected, right click on the area and select fill. Choose pattern - preferrably the one you used before for the background, but you can use another if you like. Deselect the area and adjust the color. I went with a blue-purple-ish color to offset the gray. Image - Adjustments - Hue/Saturation (Ctrl + U)

Step Eight - Shadow Boxes pt2
Right after that, add another empty space with the rectangular marquee and fill it with the offset color that you just picked out. here's what I have so far:

Step Nine - Fun Brushes
Now we get to the fun part - Brushes! Fun Ones! I got some from Orchidee [link] and I added in my own self made dots.

Step Ten - Color Layers
On top of it all - add in an exclusion layer - #02023C
Next - a color burn layer - #B9F5FA
One more - Overlay @ 40% - #F5AAF2

Step Eleven - Variations
Select - All
Edit - Copy Merged
Edit - Paste

Next, go to Image - Adjustments - Variations. Add in some yellow, red, cyan, magenta or whatever color combination you like and any level. Tinker with it, get the look that you want. This is what I got:

Step Twelve - More Variations
Duplicate your variation layer and desaturate it. Auto contrast this layer (Image - Adjustments - Auto Contrast). Set it to Soft Light @ 60%. Duplicate the desaturated layer again and set it to Multiply @ 60%.

Step Thirteen - Text
Start adding in your text. Wherever you want.

Step Fourteen - That Blue Layer Again
Remember that color burn layer? Find it, and drag it all the way on the top. And voila! - Moons & Junes & Ferris Wheels

PS7 Tutorial 09: Bethany Joy Galoetti

I debated on whether to go with Hilarie Burton, Sophia Bush or Joie. But I decided on Joie, because she's just so pretty and these promo pics from OTH are beautiful. So, here we go...are you ready for it?

1.) Gather up your images. I used these {1, 2}ones that I snagged from Superior Pics {link on my resource page} of Bethany Joy Galoetti, or Lenz, as most of us know her by.
2.) Make you canvas - I choose a 1024x768, transparent background. I know that this is all probably basic knowledge, but I just thought I'd put that in there, just for kicks.
3.) Make a new layer (layer-new) and then fill it with white (edit - fill - use: white)
4.) Pull your images onto the canvas & try and place them where you think you would like them.

5.) Once you have them where you want them to be - erase some of the top picture so you can see the background picture. Keep erasing until you get something like this:

6.) Merge the images together - NOTE: Make sure that this is the arrangement you want and like, there is no going back. Sharpen the edges once (Filter - Sharpen - Sharpen Edges).
7.) Duplicate the merged image once, desaturate it and set it to soft light.

8.) Add a texture. Any one you have or have made yourself would do, but make sure it has some eye-popping color to it. 1 Green Eye and Hybrid Genesis are excellent resources. Place this on top and set it to a blending mode that compliments the pictures. I set mine to saturation and ran a motion blur on it because of its original beaded appearance.I also duplicated it and set it to soft light, so I have something like this:

9.) Fish out another texture, but make sure it's different. Place this one on top of everything again. I actually choose a real photo of The Pleiades Star Cluster and set it to soft light.
10.) Duplicate the texture again and change the hue (Image - Adjustments - Hue/Saturation). Once the screen pops up, click on the colorize radio button to the right and then go and adjust the hue to a different shade. I chose a blue tone with these settings:
                                         Hue: 227 Saturation: 77 Lightness: -34

11.) I love to color so you can almost immediately guess what I did next, right? COLOR! I added a color balance layer. Here are my settings:
        Shadows: +41, -11, +55
        Midtones: +25, +18, -27
        Highlights: +22, +13, +18
Set this layer to Hard Light and fade the opacity to 80%

12.) Now, we get to add the brushes. I used various brushes from all over. But most of them were from Linzee, Annika Von Holdt and Orchidee. You can also find more brushes at the Deviant Art Collective. I used some stairs, flowers, words and sparkles. I used different layers for each of them and placed most of them below the original merged images of Joie. I also put some on top and in between the textures too. You just have to play around with the arrangment until you get the dreamy look you want.

13.) Okay, so instead of coloring again, I added another texture. Yes, I know. I'm a six year old who loves to color and go nuts with textures. But it's fun! I snagged two of zombiestock's textures. Any two random ones would do. Search through his gallery and pick out two old-antiquey looking ones. I placed one of them on the top of the other textures and the second one on the top of everything, including some of the brushes that were on top. Select a blending mode for the both of them that works for you. For me, I put the first one on Overlay and the second one to Color Burn @ 70%.

As you can tell, I played around with the blending modes of the last two textures and came up with some different looks for the wallpaper. The second one is placed on Saturation and the third one is on Hue.

14.) And since you all know that I'm still six years old and I still love to color, I duplicate the desaturated merged images of Joie and set it on top of the first texture only, not on top of everything. Fade the opacity to 50%.

15.) Now - adding text. I borrowed a quote from the wonderful Elizabeth Barrett Browning, using the font Witched (dafont.com) and place it by Joie's elbow. In my layer palette, it's on the top and viola! Dreamy Joie:

PS7 Tutorial: Piper Halliwell-Wyatt Header

The Making of Piper Halliwell-Wyatt:

Step One:

take your picture from Marilyn. Remember this is all in your picture. Not on the blank header yet.
A) Auto Contrast : Image - Adjustments - AutoContrast (Alt Shift Ctrl L)
B) Sharpen : Filter - Sharpen - Sharpen. Once only.

Step Two:

C) Make a blank canvas size 600x350. Drag your picture that we just contrasted and sharpened over to the blank canvas and position it where you want it.

Step Three:

D) Duplicate your base, Desaturate it, then set it to Overlay @ 50%

Step Four:

E) Duplicate it again. But this time set it to Linear Burn @ 15%

She is so damn pretty!

Step Five:

F) Duplicate it one more time. Last time, I swear. Set this copy to Vivid Light @ 50%.
G) Go up to Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur -> Drag the bar up to 74.3

Step Six:

Now we get into a bit more, but subtle coloring.

H) Add an exclusion layer. #020D30
I) Apply a Gradient Layer on top of that. The hex for the gradient I used: F1C4A3-B58466, both at 100%. Set the gradient to Hue @ 50%
J) Add on one more color fill layer #FBF0A5, set this to color burn. Make sure you decrease the FILL to 50%, not the opacity. You'll get two total different effects that what we want to achieve.
K) Add a dry paint brush by nardasarmy here and any text you want. I didn't add any text and there you are. A beautiful Piper Header:
